Social networks drive increased traffic to online retailers

I came across the article with regard to a recent report by Experian. We all know that Social Media is growing in popularity and usage, but this report highlights the effect that this is having for online business. From Experian: Social networks are rapidly becoming the nation's favourite online pastime. As more time is being spent on social networking sites, Hitwise data shows retail brands tapping into the power of social media to drive online traffic and sales. Social networks are sending nearly 13% more traffic to online retailers this year than in 2009. Our new report "Getting to grips with Social Media" reveals that social networking sites accounted for 11.6% of all UK Internet visits during September, representing a year on year growth of 4.3%. What does the Internet say about YOU? Part 1

Reviews, Forums, Social Media… They all play a part in what is found on the Internet. So who is saying what about you and your business? The Importance of Your Online Reputation Word of mouth has been in the past the most effective way of damaging a business. But this was very limited and not very fast. However, word of mouth includes chat forums and Review websites, Blogs, Video and so much more.   It’s a fact that a viral campaign (good or bad) can spread worldwide, very quickly. Forums can be viewed and interacted with from all over the world. This means your online reputation can be damaged by anyone in any country. Consumers can now share their grievances online, and many people will add their issues if they feel they have a story to tell in order to pass that story along to others. If your name begins to appear on review sites like them, these pages may start to appear high in the search results pages. The end result is that if a potential customer searches using your … [Read more...]

SEO Mystery Explained – Link Building Part 2

5 Tips for Getting Started In Link Building We explained in a previous post why it is important to build links to your website.  But after reading that post you are probably wondering “how, exactly, can I get started building links to my site?” To be honest, there is no surefire, quick way to build up tons of links in a very short amount of time.  And you should be very wary of any person, company or service who tells you they can build massive amounts of links with very little effort because those methods are not usually above board. (Some of these people just flood chat rooms with your link and will get you listed as spam) With that said, there are some ways that you can start building links now so that you will continually increase the number of sites that link back to yours. Here are five ways you can get started: Be smart with anchor text. Anchor text refers to the words that you click on in order to be directed to another site. Rather than using yourwebsite.com as the … [Read more...]

What does the Internet say about YOU? Part 2

Identify Actions needed The first thing to remember, regardless of the internet marketing steps you take, is to always take a professional approach. Address any legitimate complaints that are raised. If however, you find comments that are untrue and unproven, there are other actions that you can take. Email or write to the owner of the website where the comment is placed, detailing the situation and requesting that they remove or amend the comment. There are laws that govern online defamation but if you can get a comment removed, this is always the best route. Legal actions can be seen as a negative as people will mention free speech etc, having the comment removed quietly is always the best solution. Manage Your Domains Some disgruntled customers and even former employees have been known to purchase similar domains to your own (like the .com when you own the .eu) and post harmful information or reviews there. Other possible domains may be yourdomainHELL.com or yourdomainBADNEWS.com. … [Read more...]

SEO Mystery Explained – Link Building Part 1

Link building is another one of those internet marketing topics that can frighten the average business owner.  For people who do not work in the Internet industry, the idea of actually “building links” is a foreign concept that you might not fully understand. In order to explain link building, you have to know what a link is. A link is anything such as words, texts, or a graphic that when clicked, directs you to another website on the Internet.  Link building is the process of increasing the number of other websites that feature links to your website. The more routes to your website the easier it is to find! Why is link building important? There is a ton of information on the Internet, and many websites cover the same topic, so search engines have to use various factors to decide which pages are the best ones on a given subject. One of the ways they do this is by evaluating the number of quality of other websites that link to your website. What do links mean to a search … [Read more...]

Landing Page Design …Only 2 seconds – glory or gloom?

Research shows that visitors to a web page take between 2 to 8 seconds to decide whether they have come to the right place. Your landing page can either hold their attention in those precious 2 seconds or watch them click away from it. If they stay, you now stand a better chance that they will go find what they came looking for by following through on the call(s) to action you set for them. What this means is that a mere 2 seconds is all the time you have to achieve conversion or face failure. Now that is a tough challenge. One that you should be fully prepared for. An important part of being prepared is knowing what the best practices are and avoiding common mistakes in landing page design, content and implementation. First impressions count, so make sure they're great! Similar to a store's window display or signage, a landing page is often the first touch point for your brand. A potential customer's impression of your landing page goes a long way in determining and influencing his … [Read more...]

Pay Per Click (PPC) – What is it and How Does it Work?

The term “Pay Per Click,” or PPC, is one advertisers and business owners throw around a lot. Most people have minimal knowledge of PPC. Most think it sounds like a good idea, but will have no idea how it works, what it entails or if PPC is right for your business’ internet marketingstrategy. What is Pay Per Click Marketing? PPC is a powerful online advertising blueprint in which your business will pay only when a user clicks on your ad. You see PPC ads every day on search engine sites like Google and Yahoo! It aims to place your ad high on the search engine results page through incorporating keyword rich content specific to your business. Overall, the objective of your PPC campaign will be to drive targeted traffic to your site. How does Pay Per Click Work? Instead of forking over a large, flat rate fee like you do for traditional advertisements in magazines or on television, PPC simply requires you to pay up every time a user clicks on your ad. And with our Keyword Analysis … [Read more...]
